Proverbs Pjct

Proverbs

Laura Snell (in collaboration with Katie Waters)'

Proverbs are well known sayings that are intended to influence the way people act or think. Although still commonly used, the meanings have now become outdated and irrelevant to people's lives. Our aim is to encourage you to challenge these conventions by choosing words that fit your outlook on life.' Postcards designed to enable people to recreate existing proverbs. Compiled in a hand-bound hard back book.

What's in a word?

Ever wondered what would happen if you substituted the word 'design' for another word in a well-known saying?
Well, the answers are here. Designed by Lippa Pearce Design, What's in a word? is a small typographic publication of 26 well known phrases. The opening introduction explains the exploration toward "...the power of words and the power of well-known sayings in our collective unconscious. Because the key word is 'design' it also shows how fundamental design is and should be in our thinking."
Asking 26 writers from the writer's group 26 to come up with the sayings, Domenic Lippa of Lippa Pearce designed the publication and typography with the assistance of designers, Paul Skerm and James West. Screaming it's Pentagram influence from front to back, this is a beautiful must have for all designers, writers and design thinkers!

Save the Text Save the Words

My name is H725 and I come from 2059.
I'm part of a group called SAVE THE TEXT SAVE THE WORDS and I have embarked on this voyage for a specific purpose.
I am not pulling your leg or trying to make fun of you.
I know it is difficult to believe me, but I am here to save the world.
My mission is to save text from being destroyed.

I come from the future to stop a catastrophe, I come from the future to stop them.
I've only have 21 days at my disposal.
I only have 21 days to stop them and save us.
Afterwards it will no longer be possible to halt the decline of humanity.

I come from a time in the future in which every type of communication is audio and
video; I come from a time in which text, and all written words, no longer exist.
They started it all.
Bright.ly will start it in 21 days.

I am here to stop them and I need your help.
In the time I live, they are everywhere.
They have no roots and it is difficult to understand where it all began.
The only thing we know is that it started here in Italy on September 27th at 15.32 hrs.
My mission is to discover exactly where I can find them, and then to eliminate them.

Bright.ly must be eliminated and any possibility that what they are creating here and now
can actually take place. They must be stopped. Now!
I beg of you, my forefathers.
Help me.

In my video I open my window about your future.
My only luggage on this trip is what you can see through my eyes.
It is a vision of the future.
Do not be fooled by the fascinating images that you see moving.
Everything in the future has become superficial, immediate and ephemeral and it all
because of them.
I am running after a symbol.
A precise logo.
I need you.

Bright.ly has started to manipulate the world you are living in today.
Whatever changes you should feel or see, contact me and let me know.
I need all your attention and all the assistance you can give me.
Only us togheter. Your help can stop this tragedy.

If any text surrounding you should be transformed into an image, then Bright.ly is close
by.
If any text you see starts with their logo, then Bright.ly is near you!

I will check my blog every day.
I will go on-line again tomorrow.
SAVE THE TEXT SAVE THE WORDS
p.s. Hi Anna, I am ok. I hope you receive this message. If this website survives through
time (I prepaid for 60 years, but one never knows….) maybe you will read my words.
You would like it here. No one thinks you are crazy, because you read and write.
Everyone does it here. By the way, I found that book you were looking for.

NEW MOVES Exhibition

NEW MOVES
20th September - 3rd November
The iconic Anglepoise type task lamp is under the spotlight. New Moves will be a unique representation of 70 new prototypes designed by students of the Royal College of Art design department, directed by professor Ron Arad and Senior Tutor Daniel Charny in collaboration with Ernesto Gismondi, the president of Artemide.

Anglepoise® Fifty™

Anglepoise® Fifty™ by Anthony Dickens
Inspired by the original Anglepoise® lamp invented in 1932 by George Carwardine.
The injection-moulded polycarbonate design is straightforward and transparent – a shade with a lamp fitting.
The cable threads through the arm, playfully retracing the path travelled by its predecessors.
It is held in place by an eye-catching loop pulled out through the plastic in the elbow joint.
The lamp is simply fixed by a cable connector that screws into the lamp fitting.
The back of the lamp is exposed, which floods the wall behind it with light and projects the colour of the lamp forward through the plastic body.
The colours are orange, red or white with white lamp fittings and cable.

Stubborn Chair

Dry Tech Project

Heavy lightweight by Bas Warmoeskerken for Droog

Made out of woven high tech fibers the traditional bulky cupboard gets a substantial weight loss and a face lift as well.
Remarkable is the lack of doors at the front of this shiny black cupboard.
You can store your books and other things in the open backside.
This cupboard is meant to be placed free in space.

Dry Tech Project

Spacer chair by Next architects & Samira Boon for Droog
Spacer Chair is inspired on the traditional tapestry production process.
Tapestries are woven in 2 layers together, which are cut and separated by a knife; resulting into the typical velour’s effect.
The strengths of the laminated spacer fabric are enhanced by combining the constructive 3D shape and resins.
2 Layers of the soft spacer fabric together are being separated and follow their own 8-shape and come together again.
Resins fix the soft spacer fabric and make it possible to use this very transparent fabric, resulting into this light weighted Spacer Chair.

Woven Waffle Screen by Next architects & Samira Boon for Droog
The structure and surface of the woven waffle screen consist of one and the same; frame = screen and screen = frame.
The usually 2D weaving machine is programmed with a special combination of weaving techniques and yarns, which makes it possible to create a soft 3D fabric with a depth of 10 cm.
By hardening this soft and 10 cm depth 3D textile a lightweight 3D panel is realized which can carry and balance its own weight.
Besides the frame function, the relief also serves an acoustic function, as well as gives constantly different incidences of light.
The different panels are connected by zippers, which form the hinge, and referring to the fabric background.

Dry Tech Project

Woven bellflower by Studio Wieki Somers for Droog

A combination of high tech fibers and braiding technique makes it possible to weave a lamp out of one piece.
The shade, base, connecting arch and electricity cables are woven in one production line.
The LED-lighting in the shade gives it a true galaxy feeling.

WHY???

I saw THIS fish bowl this morning over NOTCOT.ORG with the following text:

"fish bowl take away. to carry your fish friend with you outdoors.
by the designer Michal Shabtiali from Israel made that product for "kids with divorced parents""
Coffee , cigarette, a question appeared slowly:
why? why? Why?
why the hell I should take the fish for a walk ???

While I was asking questions to the universe, a song on the radio was starting..:

"Tanntaran tan tan..
This is a film about a man and a fish
This is a film about dramatic relationship between man and fish
The man stands between life and death
The man thinks
The horse thinks
The sheep thinks
The cow thinks
The dog thinks
The fish doesn't think
The fish is mute, expressionless
The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything
The fish knows everything.."

end of the mystery !
